The Human Spirit is the Hardest Thing to Beat

In the models of Daniel A. Helminiak and Bernard Lonergan, human spirit is considered to be the mental functions of awarenessinsightunderstandingjudgement and other reasoning powers. It is distinguished from the separate component of psyche which comprises the entities of emotionimagesmemory and personality.


John Teske views human spirit as a social construct representing the qualities of purpose and meaningwhich transcends the individual human.


At this point in our lives, I believe we can no longer deny God, or a "higher being" giving us strength and life. 

If you still breathe today, let's take a moment to be thankful, and consider that maybe it is our human spirit that is allowing us to continue our walk in this world.

It is undeniable that the impact of this pandemic has widely increased the entire world's overall physical deaths, but the negative mental effects should not be set aside anymore as well. 

It's so easy to just shut down and give up, but I want to suggest to hold on to your human spirit and go live

I wish you do not find it embarrassing to say "I love you" anymore, or to give a simple compliment to someone you see, whether virtual or physical, share a joke or two, and to bring back the non-toxic connections you once lost that once made you feel your happiest.

What makes you feel alive? Not just 'surviving', but alive? Go there. Fight your way to get there. It is now essential to do so.

Vulnerability, now more than ever, is the highest indication of strength. You must learn how to be weak. You must stay aware of what holds you back, so you know how to move forward.

Pace yourself. You cannot solve everything now, so stay here. Stay in the moment. 

You can't go back, and you can't predict what's next. 

We continue to live uncertainly, unlike before "when we were so sure about everything".  

That's why, the next time you make a mistake, I hope you don't take it to heart.

You can spend hours, days, weeks, or months beating yourself up, but life goes on, and so must you.

I do not want to say "stay strong" anymore, because I think we've attached a wrong notion to what is needed now, so I want to say "stay true". Speak your mind. Stay genuine, grounded and empathic. 

Everyone is battling more problems than one, but that's life. A life without problems is a life not well-lived. 

Perhaps we must appreciate better the little good things now, rather than the big bad things. There's too much of that. Let's focus on the good, no matter how "little" it seems. 

Let's take care of ourselves better, so we can take care of others around us better, too. 

If "taking care of ourselves" mean to just wake up, eat, and sleep again, then so be it. If it means to exercise, go ahead. If it means to change career paths; no one is stopping you (only yourself). If it means to talk to this person and admit your fault, go and talk. 

The important part is that you wake up and be thankful.

I'm having a lot of anxiety and depression episodes these days, then I turned on my TV one Sunday for an online mass, and the priest preached "Live by your faith, and not by your fear", and though the words were familiar, it struck me so much more now because all this time, I have been living by fear to "protect" myself, but the truth is it was destroying my spirit.

I wish there was an antidote for all pains in this world, but there's none. Sometimes pain is necessary because it teaches us to be human; that we are imperfect and that we feel. 

My prayer though, is that to whoever is reading this, please live by your faith. Do not underestimate your human spirit. It's all in us. 

Life is still worth living if you believe in it enough, not simply just by any kind of scientific rationalization, but by faith and human spirit. 

I'd rather be a little foolish than pretend "I'm strong".
